Why Do We Always Seem to Associate Violence with Religion?

Religion Dispatches offers a fantastic article questioning why it matters that Aaron Alexis was Buddhist? Similarly why does it matter when such an act is committed by a Muslim? Why do we never assume religious motives when the violence is perpetrated by a Christian? Such questions are ones that Americans need to ask themselves if we continue to label ourselves as a nation governed without religion that is accepting of all faiths.
