When it comes to our community, our differences make us stronger and are the foundation for a vibrant, thriving community. Citizens Project promotes a diverse Pikes Peak region that honors those differences and extends equal civil rights to all its citizens.
To that end, Citizens Project works to educate and empower people in the Pikes Peak region to move beyond mere tolerance and embrace all members of our community, regardless of race, creed, economic status, ethnicity, color, religion, national origin, resident immigrant status, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, military or veteran status, political affiliation, organizational membership, or physical or mental ability. Through our outreach, we seek to create a space in which respectful discourse about our differences – and our similarities – can occur.

Equal Opportunity
Citizens Project recognizes the great strides our nation and our community have made to ensure equal opportunity for all citizens. However, we also understand that there is much work to be done to ensure true parity. That’s why, in 2008, we took a lead role in defeating the deceptive Amendment 46, which would have eliminated affirmative action programs in Colorado.

LGBT rights
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning people continue to face unfair discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodation. Citizens Project believes the principle that “all men are created equal,” boldly declared in the Declaration of Independence, will never be faithfully upheld while it remains legal to discriminate against people on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. Objections to LGBT civil rights often stem from religious doctrine, and our nation is founded on laws and principles, not on any particular religious faith.
